Solkane® 365mfc
Solkane® 365mfc is widely used in Europe as a base material for a wide range of blowing agent blends for plastic foams, industrial solvents and heat transfer fluids. Polyurethane foams produced with Solkane® 365mfc have a fine cell structure with good insulation properties and a good compressive strength. Solkane® 365mfc is a liquid hydrofluorocarbon without any ozone depletion potential. Two life cycle assessments performed according to ISO 14040 confirmed that Solkane® 365mfc product systems can be more eco-efficient than alternative solutions.
Note: HFCs such as Solkane® 365mfc have no impact on the ozone layer.
In the US, Solkane® 365’s use as a blowing agent is restricted and is primarily used as a solvent in electronics cleaners, mold releases, vapor degreasing, and as a replacement solvent for CFC, HCFC, and certain brominated chemicals.
Solkane® 365mfc is currently under notification procedure within the European Authorities.
The ELINCS No. is 430-250-1. A SNAP approval has been received.
Vertrel® specialty fluids
The Vertrel® specialty fluids are a family of hydrofluorocarbon-based solvents with zero ozone depletion and low global warming potential, ideal for use in vapor degreasing equipment for cleaning, rinsing, drying, and carrier-fluid applications. Wherever excellent performance, demanding specifications, and a high degree of environmental acceptability are required, DuPont Vertrel® specialty fluids are the ideal replacements for ozone-depleting solvents such as CFC-113, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, HCFC-141b, HCFC-123, and HCFC-225, as well as high global warming solvents such as perfluorocarbons (PFCs).
The Vertrel® specialty fluids are high-purity solvents that deliver superior performance. Unique physical properties include high boiling points and low heats of vaporization for low energy consumption and excellent solvent retention, and low surface tension and low viscosity for effective wetting and soil removal. These properties, combined with nonflammability, chemical and thermal stability, low toxicity, and ease of recovery by distillation, make Vertrel® solvents ideal for a broad range of applications.
trans 1,2 Dichloroethylene
trans 1,2 Dichloroethylene is a specialty chemical product with unique solvency characteristics and a favorable toxicological profile. It has negligible global warming potential and is not regulated as an Ozone Depleting Chemical in the USA. It is not listed as a Hazardous Air Pollutant, not regulated as a Prop 65 chemical, and not classified as a carcinogen or suspected carcinogen in the USA. trans 1,2 Dichloroethylene is flammable in its pure form. It may be used neat or as a co-solvent in a variety of azeotropic or non-azeotropic blends to enhance the functionality and economics of a wide array of solvent formulations. Applications include:
- precision cleaning in the electronics and computer components industries,
- aerosol cleaning (high-end precision parts),
- foam blowing products,
- material deposition,
- in-situ-manufacturing, and
- vapor degreasing.
